School Profile

CHAD is a four year, tuition-free, public independent school:

  • 585 students — grades nine through twelve
  • Founded by American Institute of Architects, Philadelphia Chapter
  • Located a half-block from Independence Hall in historic Center City
  • Graduation requirements that exceed state standards
  • Academic, college-prep curriculum.  Passing grade is 70 compared to city-wide 65
  • Blocked course system to ensure optimal learning experience and college preparation
  • Cross-curricular, project-based program using the design process to teach creative problem-solving
  • Strong support from private sector: architects, designers, construction, developers,  and trades
  • Unique teach training partnership with the prestigious Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum

Paul Musumba has been an organic chemistry instructor for CHAD Phila since December of 2017. Prior to his stint at CHAD, he was a chemistry teacher at Delaware Valley Charter High School in Philadelphia. He received a B.S. in Biology and Organic Chemistry from Drexel University in 2010, and a masters degree in Chemistry and Computer Science with Teaching, Organic and computational Chemistry from Temple University in 2016.
