CHAD exceeds fund raising goal for library expansion

CHAD students work with librarian

Four years ago CHAD took the bold step of creating its own library with a certified librarian Director. What is unusual about this step is that it has come in a period when regular public schools in Philadelphia have closed and continue to close school libraries. Recognizing CHAD's bold step, the Poor Richard's Charitable Trust offered a Challenge Grant, pledging to match dollar for dollar, gifts to the CHAD library up to $100,000. As of December 31, 2014, our generous CHAD friends and supporters have given $148,000 to the library and successfully met--and exceeded the challenge of $100,00. Meanwhile, gifts continue to be received in support of the CHAD library.

"We are thrilled that the support of the CHAD library will allow us to expand the services and space of the library and provide a better place for students in which to learn to love books, love the quiet of reading and study, and learn to access new and different kinds of information," said Peter Kountz, Head of School. "Plans for the renovation will be completed soon and we anticipate the first phase of the library expansion will be in place for the 2015-2016 school year."
